My Vatican Leaks Rant

Seriously? Emiliano Fittipaldi and Gianluigi Nuzzi, Vatileaks, ooooh secrets, oooooh scandal. Whatever. People arrested, whatever. Like that doesn't ever happen. While many of us are probably sitting here thinking, "Seriously? In this day and age everything leaks. Lock it down Pope Francis, lock it down!" I ask again. Seriously?

So the Vatican has some problems? BIG DEAL. I actually hope they do. You know why? Because it proves the Catholic Church is HUMAN. It just proves that we, as a church, just like every other person on the road to Heaven, has issues and challenges, with vices and temptations to overcome. Is it really a surprise to anyone that in an organization comprised of over ONE BILLION members, that there may be issues with a few in being honest when it comes to dealing with money? That's like...

Let's see what government in our modern world doesn't have scandal? Greenland?

Oh wait, nevermind! They had their own financial scandal in 2014. LOL. I really thought I had found a winner there. What big business doesn't have a scandal, lawsuits, recalls, internal power struggles, temptations to make a quick buck?

I don't mean to diminish the fact that if there are in fact monetary improprieties that those people responsible shouldn't be held accountable. They should. They should be charged with crimes, they should be removed from posts, fired, stripped of responsibilities, etc. etc. Oh wait, isn't that what Pope Francis has been doing all along? Go back through any Vatican news, any secular news on the Vatican and search that with finances, and you're bound to see where the Holy Father is cleaning house. Then this whole Vatican Leaks 2. Something about it seems to trigger this really uncomplicated chain of logic in my simple mind...

It starts with the plain and simple premise: Either one of two things happened. 1. Someone about to publish a "leak" had to have found something that belonged to someone else right? That means the someone else before the leaker had found out about the "top secret" information beforehand. Otherwise, there's no leak to be leaked, right? Or 2. The authors embellished and/or fabricated the story.

If scenario 1, the former, is true, then there's actually documents or facts that someone in the Vatican like Pope Francis, the auditors (KPMG), his assembled task force of investigative committees, or those cleaning financial house already uncovered. Then based on the recent experience and the Holy Father's M.O., one could likely surmise that it is more likely than not that he is doing something about it; rooting out the transgessors and the cause of the transgression. So if all this is true, we have two self-proclaimed "journalists" out there trying to make a bunch of money off of stolen information. If there's evidence of their involvement, they should probably be charged as an accomplice in property theft or the like.

If scenario 2, the latter, is true, then

and two self-proclaimed "journalists" are out there just trying to make a bunch of money off of Catholic haters. Because anyone can write a book comprised of a bunch of lies or embellished stories. We all learned that in 3rd grade right? Creative writing?

So to me, it's not really a story, because it's probably scenario #1., especially if people were already arrested for purloining papers. Housecleaning already in progress. Pope Francis is still out there making statements that he's still keeping on that mission to clean up the Vatican finances. Call me naive, but I'd bet the Pope buys the first copy of those books, just to see if he's actually got something in the works to fix it already, and to see if he missed something.

Yeah, some Cardinals will get kicked out of their posh crib. Some already have haven't they? Some Monsignors, Bishops, or over-elevated laity may go to jail. Remember, this is the guy who lives in a dinky apartment. The one who does everything pretty simply. Lest we forget,

Catholics should be rejoicing the rest of the world is finding out we're not fiscally perfect during this Papacy. Fixing fiscal issues is a pretty cut and dry process. Fire, redefine process, close loopholes, and rehire. We should be rejoicing that we have a C.E.O (Pope) who cares enough to investigate, move towards transparency, and lives as an example of good stewardship for us to emulate.

So again, VatiLeaks 2? Whatever. Get over it society. Catholics aren't perfect, neither are any Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics. Because we're all HUMAN. Not God.

Thank goodness we have a leader that cares about solutions rather than leaking problems and blaming people. Thank goodness for Catholics we believe that Jesus preached mercy and forgiveness and not perfection.
